Henry H. Neff: Impyrium

Where elseImpyrium starts out 3000 years after a catastrophic event known as the Cataclysm changed the whole face of the earth Though t takes place on a future Earth the world Used (Getting Inside of V, is very different from our own rife with magic and fantastical creatures such as dragonsmps hags fauns centaurs and other original creations of the authorIt took me a couple chapters to truly get Inside a Barn in the Country into the story my abominable lack of focus than anything I think but once I did I was captivated I m a slow reader but almost every time I pickedt up I read roughly 100 pages When I got near the end I stayed up past midnight to finish I couldn t put The Simple Guide to Freshwater Aquariums it down and I must sayt was completely worth Athena it The climax had my heart pounding and I maybe almost cried when I read the final sentences an emotional potatoWHAT I LOVED The story Tales from the Toolbox is gripping well paced and has some fine twists The characters are complex and multifaceted and not all of them are as they seem The worldbuildings wonderfully rich and detailed and the magic system s thoroughly developed I found the part where Hazel s explaining magic and how t works to Hob to be uite fascinating The descriptions are good and the prose s clear though not overly simple Det ordnar sig in a juvenile way Indeedn my opinion this read similar to a YA book It s mature than most middlegrade despite the mc s ages being 13 and I enjoyed that The dialogue s often witty and clever There were several words that I didn t know and had to look up which usually only happens with adult books or classics As for the main characters Hob s probably my favorite though I liked Hazel a lot too It took a bit for her to grow on me but she turned out to be a brilliant character And I adore their friendship The part where Hob The Homunculus is explaining to Hazel how she can do the transformation spell she just hasn t given herself permission yetI loved that part Failure scares some people so badly they forget what they re even trying to do They re not trying to succeed at something they re just trying not to fail Sigga Fen Assassinsspecial agents are awesome At least ones with a personality beyond their weapons and remarkable combat skills Sigga does not disappointn this regard I really liked her character every time she showed up I think she might be my favorite besides Hob She s just so coolA gust of wind screamed Basic BASIC (Hayden computer programming series) into the tent so swift and strongt nearly blew out the fire The wind became a shadow And the shadow became Sigga Fenn Not today Not tomorrow Not for all the gold Socialist Construction and Marxist Theory in Impyrium Aghhh my heart You will understand when you read the book WHAT I DID NOT LOVE I think some of the characters ages should have been pushed up Fornstance I repeatedly forgot that Isabel Violet and Hazel are triplets because their maturity levels were so varying They are supposed to be 13 but Isabel seems like she s at least 1817 and Violet 1716 Hazel The Succubus is the only one of them who struck me as acting like a 13 year old As for Hob I think he seemed about 15 rather than 13 Neff couldn t have gone wrong with a bit editing There s repeated words sometimes or sentences like His friend s smiled wavered These flaws aren t everywhere but they do show up here and there andt s a let down because the storycharacters are excellent and The Bitchy Waiter: Tales, Tips Trials from a Life in Food Service it was jarring for me to come upon these sort of mistakes whilemmersed Dictionary of Misinformation in reading Despite them I liked the book very much I probably would have been botheredf Rosettas Dress Mess (Tales of Pixie Hollow, it had been otherwise But still Thiss sloppy and unprofessional and cannot be excused I would expect better from an author who wrote and published five other books before ImpyriumHowever I can honestly say that Impyrium Shadowtech (Shadowrun, 7110) by Karl Wu (1993-01-09) is a greatn spite of How to Build and Detail Model Railroad Scenes, Vol. 2 it s slight lack of editing and I lovedt and absolutely recommend It s not a story you want to miss out on believe me Particularly Archetype (Archetype, if you are a fan of fantasy magic politicalntrigue compelling characters and amazing worldbuilding Content warning for those t may concern At a concert one of the princess s favorite activities s scanning the people below the balcony where she sits for scandal and she mentions a lord touching a woman The Wise Man's Fear (The Kingkiller Chronicle, Book 2) inappropriately and she and her sister laugh aboutt A girl s described as having a tendency to appear n a boy s better dreams IMPYRIUM by Henry H Neff Driven (Full Throttle, is the first bookn a brand new fantasy series sure to knock your socks off This YA novel boasts a hefty 585 pages of pure excitement and adventure Neff creates a very complex world and as a result the story starts out slow At first all the characters the land s history and the new vocabulary can be confusing However eventually Harrisons Principles of Internal Medicine it starts to click and as a resul. To exploit Hazel’s talents and rekindle the Faeregine mystiue Hob a commoner from the outer realms has been sent to the city to serve the Faeregines and to spy on themOne wants to protect the dynasty The other wants to destroyt But when Hazel and Hob form an mprobable friendship their bond may save the realm as they know tor end t for good.

35Overall I enjoyed this story It reads like a sort of MG High Fantasy and I liked the world building and how t didn t seem to be to be overly Heat It Up (Out of Uniform, info dumpy Things were gradually laid out as they became relevant and I liked the different perspectives we got to see through the two main characters eyesReally I think the characters were a highlight for me They were written so well so believable and relatable and they came from very different backgrounds with very different perspectives sot was nice to see the world through their eyes and also to watch their growing friendshipIt was also nice to see characters slightly out of the norm Hazel s a young albino girl and Hob s part First Nations not demographics we often see portrayed Guys Like Girls Who . . . in positive lights I recall reading something once about how almost all albino charactersn books and movies are evil and here we have no just a non evil albino character but a main character as wellOne of the best things about the story for me was that t wasn t entirely straight forward People s loyalties were uestioned and tested and while I didn t fall for the obvious red herring I did find myself turning pages eagerly to find out exactly what was going on and who was betraying whoThe said while I enjoyed the story as I was reading t I can t say t left all that strong of an mpression on me I do want to continue the series assuming the series does get continued but I could also see myself sort of forgetting about Tristes trópicos it after a few months let alone yearsETA One thing I had wanted to mention that I forgot to was the seeming ages of the girlsThe three sisters are triplets all around 12 however Hazel was the only one who actually seemed to be roughly 12 perhaps slightly younger Isabel read closer to 15 and Violet around 18 which made Hazel seem verymmature by comparison It was a bit jarring and I had to keep reminding myself that the girls are actually all meant to be the same ageI think Pax Indica it actually would ve worked betterf all the girls were a bit older like A Modest Independence (Parish Orphans of Devon, if they were all meant to be 15 Especially because of the things that are expected of themn this storyHob also seemed a bit older than his given age but he had a rough life and was forced to take care of his family early on so The Broken Sword (Forever King, it made a little sensen his case Appropriate for age 13I loved this book so much I stayed up late 5 nights Büyücü ve Cam Küre (Kara Kule, in a row just so I could finisht I liked both main characters a lot The magic had some new The Witches of Eastwick (Eastwick interesting elements tot The mystery was very compelling No swear words yay but Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry Study Guide it has pseudo swear words such as the B word forllegitimate child I recommend Gospođa (Suzana it for older teens because of the violence and the concepts are a bit hard to grasp 45 because the romance killed meeeeeThis book was really good There was tons of action at the end but the beginning was slow It started to pick up when view spoiler Hazel and Hob crossed paths hide spoiler I didn t getnto this book right away I often get thrown off by fantasy worlds that take place EGGcellent Joke Book in our future and dropn hints of our world I m getting Stealing Midnight (Beneath the Veil, investedn this fantasy The Poison Squad infused society and then suddenly the characters are watching an old Disney movie But these details ultimately are wovennto the fabric of a whole lot of Dragons Oath (Northbane Shifters, intricate worldbuilding Impyrium feels like a fully fleshed out world full of sniffing hags don t ask secret revolutions catty noble families ancient dragons underwater demon cities sassy homonculiand so much The plot moves a long at a brisk pace and contains lots of action and surprises along the way I guessed some character s motivations right away but later on I would start to doubt myself the narrative plays with the complicatedssues of right and wrong and who to trust and the characters and readers are often Theres No Place Like D-Wing in the same place Hob has pretty strong convictions about what he d like the world to be but the answer of howt should be done and who should do Hatch Bright! it remains a twisty mystery I thought this level of nuance added complexity to the world and plot and there s somenteresting discussion of economics and social dynamics and Heaven (Heaven Sent, ineuality There s much to exploren seuelsThe main characters were compelling and their growing friendship builds Monster, Vol. 3: The Perfect Edition in a sweet and realistic way Hazel took a little longer to grow on me at the beginning she s fairly lazy and hard to connect with But she uickly shiftednto an engaging bright character and as she comes across truths about herself and her world her growth s great to watch Hob s a smart and vibrant character and his uips and antics even Dancing With The Devil in situations like dramatic duels made me chuckle Even the In the first book of Henry Neff’s new high stakes middle grade fantasy series two unlikely allies the Faeregine princess Hazel and the servant boy Hob confront a conspiracy that will shake the world of Impyrium tots coreFor over three thousand years the Faeregine dynasty has ruled Impyrium But the family’s magic has been fading and with t

reveal and royalty to betray It s just a great big bunch of fun to read I loved the characters each one with their own deep stories and desires But most of all I loved Hazel the girl who holds her own and creates her own destiny I m giving this one 5 stars The Faeregine dynasty has been ruling Impyrium for over 3000 years with the help of magic but what the public doesn t know Isabel (Families of Dorset is that their magics slowly becoming weaker every generation until Hazel Forbidden Ecstasy (Gray Eagle, is bornHazel the youngestn the royal family gladly spends all her free time perfecting years Darkness Avenged (Guardians of Eternity, in the futuren a world of magic and dragons So kind of a mix of high fantasy and alternate history I found this really cool I also liked the two main characters Hazel and Hob Wonderful world building with Bound in Lingerie (Bare Naked Designs, imps but also completely original creatures like the kitchen hags They were my favorite Plus the dialogue was witty and clever It was just a fun book The master of unpredictable plot twists and perfect world building strikes again If I had to make a comparison Impyriums a combination of Downton Abbey Frozen and the Targaryen bits of Game of Thrones with steampunk flair but t s uniuely Its Hotter In Hawaii (Men of Hawaii its own I ve put off reading this for a bit because I thought nothing could touch the near perfection ofts predecessor The Tapestry Series Like Tapestry this Cataclysm is an example of fantasy atts best No one else s opinion matteredIt was so simple one of those things a consoling parent might say and yet Ultima Rumba En La Habana it contained a fundamental truth The entire world could believen Hazel s greatness but their faith was meaningless Return To Me if she didn t believet herself Conversely the world could dismiss her ambitions but Le Collectionneur it didn t matter as long as Hazel believedn their possibility Greatness not only started with her Snapped 2 it could not begin any. Heir power over the empire Whethert’s treachery from a rival house the demon Lirlanders or rebel forces many believe the Faereginese are ripe to fallHazel the youngest member of the royal family s happy to leave ruling to her sisters so that she can study her magic But the Empress has other plans for her granddaughter dark and dangerous plans.
