Zoje Stage: Baby Teeth: A Novel

Omg what a great debut book sooo creepy it sucks you in fast Hanna is one of the most scariestcreepiest child characters I have ever read I couldn t put this book down Hanna really ust wants to not have to share her beloved daddy with her mummy and she will go to any lengths to have him all to herself zojestage babyteeth teasippingbookworm My goodness what a horror The events that unfurl as a mother battles with her emotions trying to understand her daughter or your husband looks on in the traumatic events that unfold becomes and Claire child is on stable and ending that reminds me very much of an old fashioned horrorA great read I would recommend to anyone who likes to be scared This is certain to be a controversial book Reviews are divided between readers who disliked it and those who praised it highly I was expecting a domestic thriller but the thrill was absent How can a story be disturbing distasteful and boring at the same time There seemed to be some scenes added for gratuitous shock value and some of the dialogue and events I thought preposterous For me the characters were unbelievable which reduced any suspense or tension I should have felt There have been some good books about dangerous children way back to The Bad Seed so was not put off by the theme Seven year old Hanna is non verbal by choice She communicates well without words with her father Alex who considers her his sweet princess Such a good girl who loves her daddy Hanna adores her father her mother not so much In fact she wishes her mother Suzette dead and plots to kill her Then she can live happily ever after with daddy Suzette is living in dread of her daughter and is ealous of Alex s love and attention towards Hanna She has an unpleasant chronic condition and much physical misery in her past and grew up with a distant mother The time spent on her past and recurrences of her illness has little relevance to the plot except for her determination to give Hanna a better childhood than she had She is very weary trying to homeschool her daughter and struggles with disobedience tantrums and attempts to do her harm It is incredible that after many doctors and psychologists in the past no one has come up with a diagnosis or ways to help the girl or her parents Hanna has been expelled from a number of schools including a school for disturbed children Her father minimizes the problem and seems oblivious to Suzette s distres. S He cannot believe the schools had a valid reason for expelling HannaHanna is bright in many ways manipulative but with the fantasies of a younger child which clashes with her elaborate plans to harm others She takes on the alter ego of an older girl burned as a witch centuries ago It is under this persona that she speaks only to her mother and threatens to harm her Since the father has never heard her speak he finds this improbableThere is really no resolution at the end I expect a Part 2 where Hanna is pretending to be cured and to be a sweet normal girl planning to get revenge As a fellow fledgling author I thought Baby Teeth was very well written It kept you guessing and I found the child to be unnerving enough to keep you interested My only suggestion would be to perhaps write a bit depth for Hanna s father I can also see the possibility for a second book perhaps several years in the future is that in your plans Wow This child was creepy as hell and I was compelled to keep reading It was very difficult to put this book down The battle between mother father and child was disturbing to say the least The father in particular was frustrating He was blinded with love and I wanted to shake him The chapters alternate between the mother and child and it was a great idea to show the point of view of the child a fascinating insight into her twisted way of thinking The ending left me feeling unsettled for a different reason than I predicted Erz hlt wird dieses Buch mit einer au ergew hnliche Grundidee aus der wechselnden Sicht von Hanna und Suzette Man ist sofort in der Geschichte drinDie 7 hrige Hanna will oder kann nicht sprechen Alle kindlichen Versuche konnten sie nicht zufrieden stellen Zudem gef llt es ihr dass es ihre Mutter rgert Das genie t sie Ihre Mutter Suzette edoch l sst nicht locker und sie wird mal wieder von rzten gr ndlich untersucht Hanna verg ttert ihren Vater Alex Dabei fordert er in Wirklichkeit die gehassten Untersuchungen Alex ist Schwede und seit 19 Jahren in USA Suzette hat gerade eine OP wegen ihres Crohn hinter sich und ist noch recht angeschlagen Hanna wird von ihr zu Hause unterrichtet Sie kann schreiben und rechnen aber nicht sprechen Daher lebt sie sehr isoliert Da von den rzten wieder keine k rperlichen Ursachen gefunden werden wird diesmal der Besuch eines Kinderpsychologen empfohlenIn den n chsten Kapiteln lernt man Hanna und ihre b sartigen Streiche bes.
